Ruslan and Irina's story

Both Irina and Ruslan were once drug addicts. During a stay in hospital, they were visited by some Christians who - like them - used to be addicts, but were now free from their addictions. “We found in these guys something we hadn’t found anywhere else”.

After leaving hospital, Irina and Ruslan moved in with their new friends and lived in a small group which supported each other. God performed a miracle in their lives: "For the first time people trusted us and believed in us”. Irina and Ruslan quickly developed a desire to help others.

Through the support of a local businessman, Irina and Ruslan were able to move into a flat where addicts could come for help. Lives began to change. As well providing care and support for the residents of their new programme, Irina and Ruslan had to get jobs to pay the bills and buy food for the community.

Ruslan now runs his own men’s program and Irina a women’s centre – both of which are part of a wider ISAAC-affiliated Moldovan network.

By attending the ISAAC International Congress, Ruslan and Ira were able to have their first break away from work since they got married six years ago. They had planned a holiday before, but Ira had contracted TB through her ministry. Due to her illness and other health complications, the doctor did not give her much of a chance of surviving, and the money had to be used to pay for medication.

Coming to the Congress gave Ruslan and Ira a long-overdue chance to relax and recuperate, as well to receive training and enjoy time with others who come from similar situations.

"" It’s a miracle for us….we were desperate for what we have received here….All our reserves had run out….by coming here God has saved our ministry. ""
