The ISAAC Ghana network

The ISAAC Ghana team held its last annual general meeting on the 20th November to discuss the proposed national leadership training which is to take place in Accra next year for key people working in the field of addiction.

The Ghana Police Service has also requested the ISAAC Ghana team to carry out training for their personnel to help them understand better the issues surrounding drug addiction since so many of the addicts in Ghana are also criminals. The absence of any rehabilitation centres in Ghana has compelled the police service to jail addicts or throw them into the only Psychiatric Hospital in Ghana putting avoidable pressure on the few trained personnel and the limited facilities available.

The ISAAC Ghana network is praying earnestly and trusting God to make the way for a facility to open a rehab centre by the end of 2007. David Botchway, the ISAAC Ghana Co-ordinator, says they also have a dream to develop a training centre for others interested in working with people with addiction problems.
